Superior vs Lower Courts
Superior Court is the broad trial court, but it is not the correct office for every Monroe County record. Probate Court has its own judge and clerk staff for estate, guardianship, conservatorship, vital-record, marriage, firearm-license, traffic, and misdemeanor work. Monroe Superior Court History
Monroe County was created in 1821 and named for President James Monroe. The county seat is Forsyth, and the courthouse square remains central to modern court-record access. The current courthouse is a historic downtown building from the 1890s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places according to Georgia historical and tourism sources.
